18 months ago we came up with the idea of creating Resource Central – a Resourcing and Sourcing centre of excellence, based in a multi-lingual CEE country, servicing clients globally. RPO’s such as AMS and Kenexa had successfully created such an operation in Poland – and organisations like SAP (Czech Republic) and Oracle (Romania) had all developed this model too.
We decided to go further afield and chose Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as our location. ‘Why’ I hear you ask?
- We were working with the European Bank of Reconstruction & Development in the country, on a consulting basis – and they (along with the British Embassy and British Council) were hugely supportive of the venture.
- The country is home to an amazing set of language skills – including English, German and Turkish – with great graduate talent available.
- Sarajevo is at the heart of the Balkans (40m + people), one hour from Turkey (75m + population) and a short flight from Munich, Vienna and Frankfurt (The DACH Region with over 100m population).
- Finally – and we can’t hide from the fact that this is important – the cost base enables us to provide excellent customer service, be flexible with our business models (be disruptive) and scale rapidly.
We’ve been through an amazing journey: not least in recruiting “raw” talent then putting them through a structured training and development programme, then watching them use these skills to work on resourcing/sourcing projects in the US, DACH, UK and CEE markets.
We’ve asked our team to share their own “learning from the frontline” – and here are some their thoughts:

“There are more questions than answers! Asking the right questions of our clients and candidates is the surefire way to ‘getting it right’. So we make sure that we agree a tight brief, rigorous specification and achievable KPI’s.”
“Research is key – researching the target companies, city/region, industry and the candidate themselves. Having that ‘map’ is critical to getting the results you want.”
Learning is fun and seeing smart young people develop is great. Even as a 57 year old I’m amazed at what I’m learning about sourcing – thanks to the inspiration of the many people who have encouraged us to establish in Sarajevo (you know who you are); and the team of incredible people who drive this business forward.
